In a speech made during the thank you rally Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, to address his teeming supporters from across the 17 local government areas of Abia state and inform them of his next move forward, a frontline governorship aspirant, who came second during the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party held on the 25th of May, 2022, Mayor Igbokwe, promised not to abandon those who supported him and also make sure that government is held accountable, he said his decision to contest the 2023 election under the platform of the PDP is to ensure the welfare of the youths, women, children and the society in general.
He congratulated Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne, the winner of the PDP Governorship primary election, and Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, the flag bearer of the PDP for Ikwuano\Umuahia federal constituency, he charged his supporters to ensure victory for PDP at all levels and told them to expect a big difference from what obtained in the past because we are going to personally hold the government accountable to the people.
Present during the event include all the 17 LGA coordinators of the Ekweremekwe Movement and their ward coordinators, while dignitaries who graced the occasion include, Prince C.O Enweremadu, Abia state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Apostle Bob Agbugba, the Deputy Chairman, Umuahia North LGA and host of other dignitaries and top government officials.
“Earlier today while addressing a huge crowd of my supporters in Umuahia, I told them that my decision to seek for election as governor is based on my desire to drive change and inspire the youths to greater heights in order to bring about a new normal in the state, it was not on the instructions or sponsorship of any political godfather or vested interest.
As the Abia State frontline governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, I want to state that it is on record that the Ekweremekwe Campaign Team gave the contest for the ticket of our Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, our best shot, with the backing of my ardent supporters, who strongly believe in my capacity to offer selfless service to the good people of Abia state.
However, following the outcome of the PDP governorship primaries held on 25th May, 2022, in which I came second, a lot of alignments and realignment of political forces have been ongoing and we quite understand the expectations of our teeming supporters, who without them we couldn’t have created much impact. We remain grateful to you for your loyalty as you earnestly wait for my next political decision.
We strongly believe in a candidate who will give Abia a sense of hope and confidence about the future. It is against this backdrop that I will like to reassure my followers that I will continue to stand and fight for their cause going forward, and to inform you to expect a big difference from what obtained in the past because we are going to personally hold the government accountable to the people.
