A concerned Nigerian, a son of Ohuhu, and a businessman whose roots and investments are deeply tied to the peace and prosperity of the Southeast, I find it necessary to lend my voice to the urgent call for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Yes, he is currently facing trial, and we respect the judicial process. But beyond the legalities, there is a higher call to conscience and nation-building. At this point in our history, Nigeria stands to gain more from releasing Mazi Kanu than from continuing to keep him in custody. His continued detention has become a source of unrest, agitation, and instability, especially in the Southeast region.
For years, the Southeast has groaned under the weight of insecurity—sporadic violence, fear, and economic paralysis. Businesses have suffered, young people are disillusioned, and the once-thriving cities now echo with anxiety. Mondays have become ghost days due to enforced sit-at-home orders, and the economy of the region has sunk to alarming depths.
There is no denying that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case is at the heart of this unrest. His release will not just be a gesture of goodwill, it will be a strategic step toward de-escalating tension, restoring peace, and reigniting economic life in the Southeast where majority of the people see him as a symbol.
I call on the Federal Government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all relevant authorities to consider the broader national interest. This is not about condoning criminality or undermining the rule of law, it is about seizing a rare opportunity for reconciliation, healing, and progress.
History will not forget leaders who chose peace over provocation, dialogue over domination, and unity over unyielding pride. Let us not miss this moment.
Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Let the Southeast breathe again. Let Nigeria move forward.
