Students Missing As Bandits Attack Secondary School in Katsina

The Katsina State Police command has confirmed the attack by gunmen on Government Science Secondary School Kankara on Friday night, but said no student was killed.

The incident took place shortly after the president arrived his country home, Daura in Katsina for a one week leave.

The command’s Public Relations Officer SP Gambo Isah, announced this to newsmen on Saturday in Katsina. “On Friday around 11:30 p.m., gunmen in their numbers attacked the school with dangerous weapons.

They began to shoot and engaged our men guarding the school in a duel. That gave some students an opportunity to jump over the fence and run into the town for safety. The gunmen also shot one of the security guards at the gate who is presently responding to treatment,” he said.

He added that it was too early to determine the number of students missing or kidnapped.

Some parents who rushed to the school to know the fate of their children have confirmed their wards missing, while unofficial sources claimed that the bandits may have kidnapped some of the students.
