SOS: Dozie Way/Umuafai/Ahiaeke Residents Cry Out Over Abandoned Road Project — Plead With Gov. Alex Otti To Call Contractor Back To Site.
The residents of Dozie Way, Umuafai-Lodu Ahiaeke, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, have raised a desperate alarm over the abandonment of a critical road project the construction company handling the reconstruction of Dozie Way, Umuafai -Lodu, Ahiaeke Road.
According to residents for weeks now, the road at the end of Dozieway has been excavated and left completely impassable, with no alternative route provided for residents and businesses.
The result has been catastrophic: Families are trapped. Children returning from school are stranded. Pregnant women and people with medical emergencies are unable to reach help. Vehicles left overnight because their owners can’t drive them home have been vandalized thieves, and businesses in the area are bleeding from lack of access and dwindling customer flow.
The matter was made worse a large truck stuck in the middle of the road making an already bad situation dire.
Residents say this incident completely blocked the only passable path, rendering the entire stretch of road impassable for residents.
“We have been suffering for weeks since this road was opened up and abandoned,” a visibly frustrated resident told reporters. “People can’t reach their homes. We have patients that need care, children that walk long distances now, and some of us have had our vehicles damaged or robbed after being forced to leave them on the road overnight.”
Construction equipment and workers have vanished from the site, with no sign of progress or commitment to complete the project.
Residents are now calling on Governor Alex Otti to intervene recalling the contractor and compelling them to resume and complete the project without further delay. They also demand the provision of a temporary access route to ease movement during the construction.
“We appreciate the government’s good intentions in trying to fix our roads, but this kind of abandonment shows a lack of planning and empathy. We can’t continue to suffer like this,” another resident added.
This is not just a road issue; it is a humanitarian emergency. The residents of Dozie way, Umuafai, are calling on the governor to please come to their aid and save them from the untold suffering and hardship.
