Ofoegbu Calls On Dave Umahi To Give Urgent Attention to umuahia/ Ikot-Ekpene Road, Decries Poor State of The Road.

HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, Diawa of Umudiawa Ancient kingdom and Chairman of the Ndigbo Progressive Traditional Rulers Council, has issued a passionate plea to the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, to urgently address the deteriorating condition of the Umuahia/Ikot-ekpene road. This vital stretch of roadway that cuts from Abia state to Akwaibom has been abandoned and left in total disrepair since the 1990s, causing significant hardship, loss of lives, and properties to communities, residents, and commuters.
During a press conference held at his palace, Eze Ofoegbu lamented the neglect and abandonment the road has faced over the years, stating, “Government after government, senator after senator, and all federal house members that have represented Ikwuano/Umuahia have played politics with that road.” He emphasized that it is time for action, rather than empty promises, to prevent further loss of lives and livelihoods of the people.
The traditional ruler highlighted the severe consequences of the road’s poor condition, noting that it has resulted in numerous tragic accidents, including fatalities involving students and intercity travelers. “This is not just about convenience but safety and lives. Our children, our families, deserve better than what we’ve been subjected to,” he asserted.
Eze Ofoegbu’s urgent call for intervention reflects growing frustration among residents who have had to endure years of dangerous travel conditions. The Royal father hopes that the minister will heed his request and prioritize the necessary repairs and reconstruction of this road to restore safety and accessibility.
He also called on leaders at the state and federal levels, especially our federal legislators, Hon. Obi Aguocha and Senator Austin Akobundu, to take immediate action to address the longstanding issue of the Ikot-Ekpene Road.
