The Bajju community and beyond gathered yesterday to bid farewell to Mrs. Hanatu Irymiya Bature (JP), a revered scholar, proprietress, and community builder, who passed away at the age of 74 on January 25, 2025. Her burial, held on February 1, 2025, was marked by deep sorrow and heartfelt tributes.
Married into the Royal Family of the late Agwam Bajju the 1st, Mrs. Bature dedicated her life to education and social development. As the owner of a primary and secondary school where nursery and primary education were provided free of charge, she championed the cause of quality education for all, particularly the underprivileged.
A devout Christian and a pillar of ECWA Kurminbi Zonkwa, her passing has created a significant void in the church and the entire Bajju community, she was described as a woman of faith, service, and unwavering commitment to humanity by those who knew her.
She is survived by many children, including her last child, Mrs. Nana Bature-Igbokwe, who is married to Hon. Demian Igbokwe, the Special Adviser to the Senate Minority Whip.
Her funeral drew notable figures, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, and government representatives, who extolled her virtues and contributions to society. Speakers at the event emphasized her selfless dedication to education and community service, highlighting the lasting impact of her work.
Speaking during the funeral Hon. Igbokwe eulogized late Mrs Hanatu Bature, he described her as a wonderful mother inlaw whose loss will be deeply felt, Igbokwe encouraged those she left behind to take solace in her legacy of service, faith, and education.
According to him the remarkable life of Mrs Hanatu Bature will continue to inspire generations to come, he prayed God to accept her soul and grant her eternal rest in his bosom.
