The people of Umukabia–Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA, Abia State, on Saturday celebrated a boost in healthcare courtesy of Barr. GabIkeji, the Lagos based lawyer and native of Umukabia community, Barr. keji, took the personal initiative to completely remodel and equip with modern facilities their Community Health Centre.
The facility which was in a dilapidated state, received a massive reborn with modern infrastructure, modern roof, fresh interiors, hospital beds, medical equipment, with modern health facilities and fittings that now meet contemporary healthcare standards.
At the commissioning ceremony, which featured the traditional ruler of Umukabia Autonomous Community HRM Eze Uzo Nwosu, prominent members of the community and top government officials, including Mayor of Umuahia North Chief Smart Iheoma, Hon. Anderson Akaliro, member representing Umuahia North State constituency and SSA to the Governor Barr. Agbonma Ukaobasi, hailed Ikeji’s selfless gesture.
“This is a shining example of selflessness and love for community,” Ukaobasi said, urging other illustrious indigenes to follow his lead.
Residents and community leaders in a show of gratitude described the project as a lifeline, easing access to quality healthcare and reducing the need for long-distance travel for treatment.
Now fully operational, the centre is set to serve indigenes of Umukabia and neighbouring communities, a testament to Barr. Ikeji’s vision and benevolence and how it has assisted in transforming many lives.
