The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi, has formally appointed Hon. Demian Igbokwe as a Consultant to the Committee. The appointment was confirmed in a letter of engagement personally signed Senator Fadeyi and presented to Igbokwe earlier this week in Abuja.
According to the letter, the decision to appoint Hon. Igbokwe was made in recognition of his “proven experience, deep expertise, and unwavering commitment to due process, environmental governance, and sustainable development.”
In his new role, Hon. Igbokwe is expected to provide expert advice and analysis on legislative matters relating to environmental protection, climate change, and ecological sustainability. He will also support the Committee in its oversight functions across relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as assist with the drafting, review, and evaluation of environmental policies, bills, motions, and reports.
The letter further empowers Igbokwe to represent the Committee in select stakeholder engagements and environmental fora where his presence is deemed strategic and necessary. He will also be offering strategic guidance on matters affecting Nigeria’s compliance with regional and international environmental agreements.
This engagement takes immediate effect.
