*As Abia Governor, I will make Isuikwuato LGA and its people realize the full economic benefits of Abia State University, Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne told the stakeholders and delegates of the Local Government as he canvasses for their support in the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election.
*Professor Ikonne shared the story of his happy days in Isuikwuato LGA with nostalgia. The erudite Professor who lived and worked in Isuikwuato LGA for over 30 years, proverbially alluded that Isuikwuato is where his umbilical cord was buried. Professor Ikonne said he will never forget Isuikwuato because he made his academic mark in the land, got the title of “ugo mmuta Abia” while in Isuikwuato; a title bestowed on him by all the traditional rulers in Abia, in recognition of his contributions to knowledge and excellent service to Abians.
*Professor Ikonne assured the stakeholders and delegates of Isuikwuato LGA that in him, they have a son who is poised to redirect the socioeconomic fortunes of the University from Okigwe back to Isuikwuato LGA. He will create a satellite town in Isuikwuato LGA with modern amenities, shopping mall, recreation centre, markets etc.; that will service the University community due to proximity and retain the economic benefits in Isuikwuato instead of Okigwe that is farther and currently reaping all. On issue of security along the university axis, the experienced Professor said he will recreate what he called ” security relationship committee” on a larger scale as Governor. The micro version of the security relationship committee, which consisted of the Clergy, indigenes, Landlords of hostels, Ndi Eze etc; was what he used as Vice Chancellor to curb security challenges, cultism and other vices.
*Finally, Prof. said Isuikwuato LGA roads are of particular importance to him and also the entire country because students from all over the country school there.
As a university town, good and adequate road networks will improve the economic and academic viability of the University and also improve the socioeconomic well-being of indigenes.
Investors will be attracted to Isuikwuato LGA because of the conducive business environment that will be put in place. Professor Ikonne pleaded with the delegates not to waste their votes but to cast it wisely for him, as he is the most experienced aspirant, with workable and applicable ideas that will transform Isuikwuato LGA.
*All the Stakeholders who spoke, paid glowing tributes to Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne either as his former students, colleagues, staff, acquaintance, or parents who heard about him from their children at ABSU. They all agreed to massively support him achieve this UCHE NDI ABIA aspiration as their adopted son and also about four of their sons are already working with him closely in the campaign.
