2023: WHY I PROPOSED A PARTICIPATORY GOVERNANCE SYSTEM – PROF. IKONNE

The Abia PDP governorship candidate, Prof. Uche Ikonne has explained why he adopted Participatory Governance as his campaign mantra, responding to questions from pressmen in his campaign office in Umuahia, Prof. Ikonne stated that every Abian should have the right to be included in political decision-making.

According to him, “we have adopted “PARTICIPATORY GOVERNANCE” as our mantra, with that as my key policy strategy, Government will give strong and trusted leadership while citizens will participate in decisions and execution of projects affecting their lives, if elected I will recognize and work with everybody’s input irrespective of age, gender, class, or status”

The Abia PDP Governorship hopeful insisted that we all have a vital role to play in the decisions that affect us all, our communities will be involved in deciding what developmental program will come to them through constant engagements with key stakeholders

“We will continually engage the traditional rulers, community leaders, women, children, and the youth and ensure that their voices are meaningfully heard in public life and decision-making.

Given the undeniable economic challenges being faced by the country, we increasingly need fresh perspectives to guide transformative political decision-making that breaks beyond the status quo.

We have spotted gaps when it comes to inclusive engagement in decision-making and formal politics because of a variety of structural barriers which prevent people from fulfilling their right to participate in public life which we are ready to tackle.

Prof Ikonne, encouraged Abians to Believe in themselves, Believe in Abia and together we shall build a greater Abia that works for all”
